Assessment
Assessment
Skilled and in-depth assessment is an important feature of Wentworth Primary. Small class sizes enable teachers to develop a very good knowledge of their students – their strengths, needs, learning styles and next learning steps. Assessment is formative: not only do teachers use the assessment information diagnostically but students learn to evaluate their own learning and achievement against the criteria so that they can identify their next learning goals.
Formative Assessment, often known as Assessment For Learning (AFoL) is a key feature of our school. AFoL places the student at the centre of his/her assessment and encourages students to be more aware and reflective about their learning. International research continues to demonstrate that AFoL practices lead to more motivated, higher-achieving learners.
Assessment practices at Wentworth Primary currently include:
| Reading: | Probe reading assessment Running Records AsTTle |
| Writing: | AsTTle and National Exemplars Burt Spelling Test |
| Mathematics: | GLOSS IKAN assessment AsTTle |
The primary outcome of assessment at Wentworth is to inform future teaching and learning. However, achievement outcomes also help us to report to parents, evaluate the efficacy of our teaching and report to school management and the Board.
